Rapido Limited Edition NCB 20-Tonne Hopper Wagons - Pack of 3 in Red (OO) - World of Railways Exclusive

Continuing our range of internal user wagons we are pleased to announce NCB versions of Rapido's 20T iron ore hopper wagons.

Constructed between the early-1920s and mid-1930s the LMS produced numerous Iron Ore Hoppers using a variety of diagram numbers, however, for the most part, they looked identical. Built by several contractors the diagram 1893, 1894, 1941, and 1942s only differed with the steel that was used to construct them and a handful of buffer varieties.

With a carrying capacity of 20 tons a large number of the Iron Ore wagons, after a life of carrying various raw materials in revenue service on the rail network, were acquired by the National Coal Board for use as internal use wagons at collieries around Yorkshire and the North East. Two forms appeared, the North East region decorating theirs in red oxide paintwork as seen on the Backworth system and the Yorkshire region painting theirs in black with white markings as with the small fleet used at Fryston Colliery near Castleford with the addition of ‘greedy boards’ to increase their carrying capacity.

We have commissioned two three-packs of these wagons, one for each style of wagon and decoration as shown priced at £99.95 for a triple-pack to give the best value. An ideal accompaniment to our previous NCB 7-plank wagons and our forthcoming NCB Bagnall. Production samples are shown below.
